Underfloor heating is a very pleasant and economical means to heat your home. That is, provided you use the system properly. If you set the temperature too high, your energy bill will go through the roof while your floor becomes uncomfortable to walk on. By contrast, if you set the thermostat too low, your home will obviously never heat up completely. Read on to discover the ideal temperature for your underfloor heating.
Some people are always freezing while others regularly break into a sweat for no reason. In other words, there’s no such thing as the perfect temperature for underfloor heating. It’s up to you to decide what you find the most comfortable. However, we recommend setting a different temperature for every room in the house. Most people like their bathroom nice and warm, so don’t hesitate to set your underfloor heating to 32 °C and see how you like it. Living areas tend to be the comfiest at 28 °C. Don’t worry about the bill, by the way: underfloor heating uses up to 15% less energy than traditional heating systems.
If you want to get the most out of underfloor heating, your home must be well insulated. Without proper insulation, the system will not perform optimally. If you’re eco-minded, you also may want to switch off your underfloor heating during the summer months. Is your home equipped with a heat pump? Don't forget to it turn off during the summer season as well. Keep in mind, though, to immediately switch the system back on once it starts to get chilly. A floor that gets too cold will get wet over time due to condensation. Does your heat pump have a cooling function? Then you can also cool down your home by letting cold water run through the underfloor heating pipes.
