Now that we are increasingly focusing on good insulation in our homes, ventilation is also becoming more important. The ‘dirty’ internal air cannot escape via cracks and chinks and there is also a reduced supply of fresh air. A ventilation system creates a healthy interior climate but also causes some heat loss. It brings fresh air from outdoors into your home. If you choose a ventilation system D with heat recovery, your installation will work perfectly alongside your heating system.
In simple terms, a ventilation system replaces the indoor air with fresh, clean outdoor air. For effective ventilation, you can use a system C or D. A system C provides a natural supply of outdoor air via window grilles; a ventilation unit removes the air from damp spaces (e.g. kitchen, bathrooms and toilets). The air moves into the ceiling via a valve, through an air duct and then outdoors along the roof or wall. With a ventilation system D, with heat recovery, the supply and removal of air is completely automated via valves.
With a ventilation system D, you can recover heat from the removed air as long as your heating and ventilation systems are attuned to one another. You can then create the ideal indoor climate and a comfortable temperature in your home.
A ventilation system D works with a heat-exchanger where the air removed from the house and the air supply from outdoors cross one another. The heat from the removed air is transferred to the supplied air to heat your home during the colder winter months. The fact that the supplied air is already heated means your heating will not have to work as hard and you will gain further benefits from your ventilation. A money-saver!
A system D requires a higher initial investment than a system C but in the long term it delivers greater advantages as your energy bill will stay low. With a ventilation C system, you will have to generate more heat as cold air will come in via the grilles, and this will have to be heated by your central heating system. The consequence? A higher energy bill.
As you cook, shower or just breathe, you generate water vapour, bacteria and contaminants. Reduced air quality can lead to allergies, respiratory issues, sore throats and headaches. If you fail to adequately ventilate your home, you may also encounter damp issues.
In new-build homes, a ventilation system is mandatory; it is also to be recommended if you are renovating. Our DX-ventilation is a great choice for every project. Ask for advice from a distributor in your area.
